چکیده

Organic solar cells have become a suitable photovoltaic technology thanks to their flexibility, scalability and light weight layout. They offer many advantages over the prevalent silicon industry, however, their efficiency is around 11%, still below the usual 20% on commercially available silicon solar panels [1], [2]. In this work, we propose an innovative method to increase light absorption on organic solar cells with photonic nanoimprinting technology. It consists on nanostructuring the active layer with a periodical structure that increases light diffraction within that layer. Diffraction favours light trapping due to total internal reflection, thus increasing the effective light harvesting of the solar cell. We chose soft lithography nanoimprinting because it can be easily applied as one extra manufacturing step without having to change the fabrication flow, or manufacturing time of current organic photovoltaics industry.

Light Trapping on Plasmonic-Photonic Nanostructured Fluorine- Doped Tin Oxide

Plasmonic Au nanoparticles of ∼50−200 nm in diameter were generated via thermally assisted self-assembly from Au films evaporated on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO). A comparative study has been made on the light trapping effects of the plasmonic Au nanoparticles on original FTO and FTO with photonic nanopatterns fabricated using nanoimprint lithography. While strong localized surface plasmon re...

Light Manipulation in Organic Photovoltaics

Organic photovoltaics (OPVs) hold great promise for next-generation photovoltaics in renewable energy because of the potential to realize low-cost mass production via large-area roll-to-roll printing technologies on flexible substrates. To achieve high-efficiency OPVs, one key issue is to overcome the insufficient photon absorption in organic photoactive layers, since their low carrier mobility...

Metallic Nanoparticles Coupled with Photosynthetic Complexes

Plasmon excitations in metallic nanoparticles provide an efficient way to manipulate electromagnetic fields at the nanoscale (Maier, 2004). While the interactions between plasmons and simple nanostructures such as organic dyes or semiconductor nanocrystals is relatively well described and understood, application of metallic nanoparticles to multipigment structures has started just recently (Car...
